CEYLON SHIPPING CORPORATION GETS LAND AFTER 44 YEARS FOR ITS HEAD QUARTERS & MARITIME CENTER

The National Sea Carrier of Sri Lanka, Ceylon Shipping Corporation (CSC) had paid the full consideration to the Port Commissioner to purchase a plot of land in 18th Lane, off Aluth Mawatha, in Kotahena in the year 1978. After setting up Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) absorbing the functions of Port Commission the responsibility passed unto Sri Lanka Ports Authority to transfer the land to CSC. All elected Chairmen and the higher management of CSC tried their level best to get the ownership of the land in favour of CSC during last 44 years. The present Chairman of CSC Mr. Wineendra Weeraman, presented this matter to the Cabinet of Ministers with the concurrence of the Land Minister and obtained the approval to transfer the land in the name of CSC. With the support of the Minister of Port Shipping and Aviation Hon. Nimal Siripala de Silva and on the guidance of the Ministry Secretary Mr. K. D. S. Ruwanchandra, SLPA Board of Directors granted approval to grant a more suitable land for the purpose in Kew Road, next to Fort Magistrate’s court facing the Beirah Lake. Finally creating another landmark in the history of CSC and a Dream Come True for the much awaited staff of CSC, the transfer of the land containing an extent 25 perches, executed on 27th February 2023 at the Ministry of Port Shipping and Aviationin the presence of Minister Hon. Nimal Siripala de Silva and Ministry Secretary Mr. K. D. S. Ruwanchandra. The Deed was executed by the Chairman of SLPA Mr. Keith Bernad and Managing Director Mr. Susantha Abeysiriwardena and for CSC by the Chairman Wineendra Weeraman and Director Mr. Emal Gunasekara. The Board of Directors of CSC, Mr. H. D. Dewendra, SLPA Vice Chairman Mr. Gayan Algewattage, Mr. P. S. K. Watawala & Senior Management of CSC and all unions of CSC graced this occasion. CSC intends to construct a 10 storeyed building at the newly acquired land as their Head Quarters for expanding its business and also to place a maritime training center for cadets training in CSC vessels.
