Mr. Wineendra S. Weeraman
Chairman
Legal Practitioner

Wineendra Weeraman is the Chairman of Sri Lanka Maritime Directory (Private) Limited, who is also the Chairman of Ceylon Shipping Corporation Limited, the National Sea Carrier of Sri Lanka. He is an active Legal Practitioner, serving over 25 years as an Attorney-at-Law, Notary Public, Company Secretary and Commissioner for Oaths.

Mr. Weeraman is a very good administrator, a born leader and a go getter who possesses special skills bringing any task entrusted to him to a success. Despite numerous challenges experienced due to covid-19 pandemic, he gave the leadership to National Sea carrier to emerge as a profit making entity after a lapse of 5 years.

 

He is also a team builder who is known for his excellence in constituting effective task forces from a diverse mix of manpower which would deliver the desired outcomes. His strategic vision accompanied with aptitude for risk taking, tough mindedness and unwavering focus had led the National Carrier to beat the odds and excel, notwithstanding the adversaries including the pandemic disruptions.

In addition, Mr. Weeraman serves as a Director for several companies such as Lanka Coal Company Ltd, Mercantile Shipping Company Plc, Magampura Port Management Company (Pvt) and Ceylon Shipping Agency Pte Ltd Singapore. He also served as Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Vice Chairman of Hambantota International Port Services Ltd, and served as Director at Colombo International Container Terminal Ltd, South Asia Gateway Terminal Ltd, Jaya Container Terminal Ltd and Hambantota International Port Group Ltd.

Concept of “Sri Lanka Maritime Directory” is a brain child of Mr. Weeraman which is among other ambitions declared in his vision plan at the occasion of 50 th year celebration of Ceylon Shipping Corporation for the development of Sri Lankan maritime field and to develop Sri Lanka as a maritime hub.

He, a passionate leader with high standards of work ethics, has sailed across many a hurdles faced by corporate sector and Sri Lankan business entities.

Mr. Geeth P. Peiris – CIM (UK)
Director

Mr. Geeth Peiris, a Chartered Marketer by Profession is a member of the Board of Directors of Sri Lanka Maritime Directory (Private) Limited. He served in the Advertising Department of Upali Newspapers Limited (UNL) in various capacities for over 30 years and was the Head of Marketing at Upali Newspapers from 2012 – 2016. He has made an immense contribution to UNL to upgrade its services that includes conducting promotional programs for enhancing public relations, inspiring and guiding the marketing team to achieve their revenue targets and developing highly effective marketing campaigns and strategies to achieve the Company goals.

Mr. Geeth Peiris, a Chartered Marketer by Profession is a member of the Board of Directors of Sri Lanka Maritime Directory (Private) Limited. He served in the Advertising Department of Upali Newspapers Limited (UNL) in various capacities for over 30 years and was the Head of Marketing at Upali Newspapers from 2012 – 2016. He has made an immense contribution to UNL to upgrade its services that includes conducting promotional programs for enhancing public relations, inspiring and guiding the marketing team to achieve their revenue targets and developing highly effective marketing campaigns and strategies to achieve the Company goals.

His expertise includes the ability to obtain advertisements from off shore companies as well, specially targeting the international events. His fruitful commitment was evidenced when UNL was awarded the Best English Newspaper Supplement in 2010 and in 2011 from The Sri Lanka Institute of Architects.

Mr. Peiris has also participated in the Global Leadership Development programmes in 2018 for Sri Lankan Administrators hosted by Chongqing Normal University, China.

He was an Alumnus of Ananda College, Colombo and also the Vice President of Colombo South Jaycees.

Mr. Peiris will be in charge of marketing team and bring a healthy mix of skill, managerial experience and initiative to Sri Lanka Maritime Directory. He will create and implement strategies, tactics, campaigns and brand messaging to the Company. He has a high passion of marketing as well as exquisite communication and creative skills

Mr. Peiris possesses incomparable updated knowledge on the latest marketing techniques and online marketing tools which attributes will make him a good leader in sales and marketing whilst his status as a CIM will be advantageous and asset to Sri Lanka Maritime Directory.

Mrs. Chitra Jayasinghe ( FICS, MCILT )
Director
SHIPPING CONSULTANT, LECTURER IN THE FIELD OF SHIPPING, VISITING LECTURER UNIVERSITY OF COLOMBO

Chitra Jayasinghe is one of the Directors of Sri Lanka Maritime Directory Private Limited who is a Shipping Consultant and a “Fellow” of the Chartered Institute of Ship Brokers (UK). She holds Masters Degree (M.Sc.) in International Shipping from University of Plymouth (UK) and is also a “Member” of the Institute of Chartered Transport & Logistics (UK).  In addition, she possesses a Post Graduate Diploma in Professional Shipping with Distinction pass conferred by Shipping Academy in Oslo, Norway.

Mrs  Jayasinghe who is known for her strong leadership and interpersonal skills , had proven her abilities at team building  in the shipping and logistics industries having served over  39 years  in  Ceylon Shipping Corporation Ltd (CSC), the National Carrier in Sir Lanka.   She was the General Manager in CSC during the period of 2019 to 2021 and had a reputation of good business acumen and confident management.

At her very young age she got the opportunity to join CSC and started her career as a junior Shipping staffer and rose right up to General Manager over period of 20 years.   She blended her professional qualifications with the knowledge and experience gathered by involving in the various aspects in shipping operations and serving in the managerial capacities in different sections.

In the sphere of ship owning, Mrs. Jayasinghe as former General Manager with the assistance of the Chairman of CSC successfully managed to employ Ultra Bulk vessels owned by CSC at the earlier part of the pandemic period during when almost all the ports in the world were locked down.

Mrs Jayasinghe had represented Sri Lanka at various international shipping forums. During the course of her rich career she successfully performed various roles at several points of time.  Mrs. Jayasinghe played a very onerous task in launching Indo Lanka Ferry Service.  Further she had immensely contributed to develop maritime training in the country.

During the period of CSC as General Manager she held the Directorship of following companies;

  • Lanka Coal Company Private Ltd, Sri Lanka
  • Mercantile Shipping Company Plc, Sri Lanka
  • Ceylon Shipping Agency, Singapore

In addition to her career as Shipping Specialist and Consultant, she takes part as a Visiting Lecturer in the field of Shipping and Port Operations at the Department of Economics in the University of Colombo.

Her aggressive approach has assisted CSC, National Carrier to strengthen its business activities.

Mr. Monoj Abaydeera
Director

Mr. Monoj Abaydeera who is an iconic writer and competent in writing on matters of political, economic and social issues/topics, is a member of the Board of Directors of Sri Lanka Maritime Directory (Pvt) Ltd. He glitters himself and the newspaper, “The Sunday Divaina” too.

He performs as a creative writer as well as an innovator of ideas and the concept of the Maritime Directory was conceived by Mr. Abeyweera. Presently, he is serving to the newspaper as an associate editor completing his career in journalism for 25 years.

Mr. Abeydeera is a graduate of University of Sri Jayawardanapura and holds a Masters Degree in Political Science from University of Kalaniya.

 

He is a multimedia specialist with wide experience in the print and web media. He is currently involving in the conceptualizing, design, and development of interactive multimedia using state of the art technology.

In recognizing his talents and the commitment in the field of journalism, he was awarded a scholarship for the International Visitor Leadership program (VLP) by United States of America. Mr. Abeydeera represented Sri Lanka in World Economic Forum held in Singapore and Jordan. Also, he has participated as a member of the international team of independent journalists to observe the general election of India. In addition, he has served as a member of the Public Performance Board of Sri Lanka and a member of Movie and Television Review and Classification Board of Sri Lanka.

Mr. Abeydeera is a Visiting lecturer for the Mass Media Course of the National Youth Council and also for Sri Lanka College of Journalism and University of Kalaniya.

His business acumen and journalism will definitely be an added value to Sri Lanka Maritime Directory.

Mr. D. Upali Wickramasinghe De Zoysa
Director
Chief Operating Officer & Consultant in Logistics and Port Operations

D.Upali Wickramasinghe de Zoysa is one of the Directors of Sri Lanka Maritime Directory Pvt Ltd who is presently a Chief Operating Officer of a leading Group of Companies in Shipping and Logistics in Sri Lanka and a Consultant in Logistics and Port Operations. He has been graduated from University of Kelaniya and holds a Master of Businee Administration from the Institute of Postgraduate Management of University of Sri Jayewardenepura. In addition, he has completed his postgraduate studies in Shipping and Port Management at the International Maritime Transport Academy of Netherlands while specializing in Container Terminal Management in Japan and China. During his career he had the privilege of attending a customized port management program by Indian Institute of Management for Top Management of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA).

Starting his professional career as a Management Trainee at SLPA, he ended up his 35 years’ service as the Additional Managing Director of SLPA, whilst performing at Gulftainer Company Ltd as a Terminal Planner at Port of Khorfakkan, United Arab Emirates. During his service at SLPA, he played a vital role as Chief Operations Manager. Chief Logistics Manager, Chief Administration Manager, Director (Operations) and Director (Logistics) maintaining a very good rapport with the Industry fraternity known as a customer oriented officer. He was the only officer of SLPA who was awarded a Certificate of Merit by World Customs Organization for rendering exceptional service to the International Customs community.

Being a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, his service as a member of Executive Committee is commendable. In addition he played a vital role as a member of Logistics Advisory Committee of Export Development Board in formulation of National Export Strategy and as a member of the Committee for formulation of National Maritime and Logistics Policy by the Ministry of Ports and Shipping. Further his contribution at the National Trade Facilitation Committee (NTFC) in implementation of National Single .Window (NSW) is recognized by the private and public stakeholders in International Trade.

He represented SLPA at various International Conferences as a guest speaker in India, Pakistan, Japan and South Korea. As an academia, he takes part as a visiting lecturer at the Transport Department of University of Moratuwa.
