Star of the Seas: World’s Largest Cruise Ship Begins Outfitting Journey, Setting New Standards in Sustainability and Luxury
The Star of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in the world, represents a leap forward in cruise technology and passenger luxury. At 1,196 feet long and weighing 248,600 tons, this Icon-class vessel features an innovative AquaDome and 40+ dining venues across its 20 decks. Designed for both sustainability and grandeur, it uses dual-fuel propulsion, including liquefied natural gas (LNG), making it more environmentally friendly. With a capacity of 7,600 passengers, the ship boasts numerous entertainment spaces, including a unique waterpark and theaters.
Currently in the outfitting phase at the Meyer Turku shipyard, the ship is being equipped with a range of modern amenities. The AquaDome, located at the front of the ship, will offer an indoor space with views of the surrounding sea, serving as both a relaxation and entertainment hub for guests. The top decks feature outdoor pools, a multi-deck waterpark, and activity zones tailored for all ages, while lower decks house restaurants, shopping areas, and unique cabin designs for maximum comfort.
The ship’s energy efficiency systems, combined with its immense size, make it a pioneering example of sustainable cruising. By utilizing LNG, the vessel reduces emissions while maintaining the ability to switch to traditional fuels, if necessary. This approach aligns with the cruise industry’s evolving focus on reducing carbon footprints, setting a benchmark for future ships.
Once sea trials are completed in mid-2025, Star of the Seas will embark on its maiden voyage in August, introducing an elevated cruise experience that blends luxury, entertainment, and sustainability for a new era in ocean travel.
